ALD Thermal Treatment, on 24th Street, has recently begun a multi-million dollar expansion plan to accommodate space and equipment for new long-term business agreements. ALD is a major heat treat supplier to the automotive and aerospace industries and was recently awarded multi-year contracts with General Motors to provide heat treatment for critical engine and transmission components. These contracts, along with several other recently attained agreements, in addition to numerous current programs, extend well into the next decade.
ALD is a toll processor of customer parts specializing in green all-electric vacuum technology: Low Pressure Carburizing with High Pressure Gas Quenching. Strategically located in Port Huron since 2007 and currently employing 175 employees, ALD has been recognized by General Motors with their Supplier Quality Excellence Award twice in the last two years. Jim Kassan, Vice President of Operations, advised that “receipt of this award for the second year in a row validates the effectiveness of our collective efforts and has positioned us well for future opportunities and potential growth. We are receiving and working on contracts extending into 2023 and can expect more as we consistently demonstrate the world class performance our customers have learned to expect.”
The expansion includes building additions of approximately 8,000 square feet, infrastructure upgrades for the bulk storage of process gases and the addition of cryogenic and nitride process equipment. The introduction of Gas Nitriding equipment is a complement to the existing processes and is also a chosen method to minimize product distortion. Mr. Kassan added “I am proud of the results the Port Huron team has achieved and I am grateful for the sacrifices and hard work that have gone into attaining and sustaining this performance. It is our hope to remain a viable and stable manufacturing facility in Port Huron for a long time.”
