On Tuesday, February 14, 2017, the Economic Development Alliance (EDA) of St. Clair County hosted its Semi-Annual Luncheon at Alexander's Banquet Center in Marysville, Michigan. The luncheon featured keynote speaker, Trevor Lauer. Mr. Lauwer is President and Chief Operating Officer at DTE Electric, an electric utility serving 2.2 million customers in Southeastern Michigan and a subsidiary of DTE Energy (NYSE:DTE), a Detroit-based diversified energy company involved in the development and management of energy-related businesses and services nationwide.
The EDA shared that 2016 was a very good year for St. Clair County and Greater Port Huron with strong investment in medical, automotive, logistics and retail. The region had $103 million in countywide investment, 759 new jobs and 32 expansion projects last year.
Certificates of Recognition were given at the event, including the 2016 Partner of the Year Award, which was awarded to the Community Foundation of St. Clair County for it support of the Inn on Water Street hotel and condo project under construction in Marine City.
Several area businesses were also presented Foundation Awards for making strategic investments and creating new employment opportunities in 2016. These St. Clair County businesses included:

At the conclusion of the event, EDA's CEO, Dan Casey stated that we're (the region) off to a good start for 2017 with the following projects:
- Blue Water View Condominiums
- CityFlats Hotel
- New restaurants in the City of St. Clair
- Apartments in St. Clair Township
- Housing Development Underway
- More investment and population growth
