Community Development Block Grants

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) administers this federally funded program that supports economic development projects requiring public infrastructure (water, sewer, roads) improvements that result in the creation and/or retention of qualifying permanent jobs for low and moderate income people. Grants are typically worth $10,000 per job. The government of the municipality in which the property is located is the applicant for these funds.

St. Clair County Project Utilizing CDBG Incentive:

Visiocorp USA, Inc.

Visiocorp, specializing in the design and manufacturing of interior/exterior mirrors for the automotive industry, chose Marysville, Michigan over competing locations to build their 65,000 square foot paint plant. A unique incentive package helped Visiocorp to retain 750 existing employees as it strengthens its competitive position in the market place from its North American headquarters in Marysville.

The EDA created an innovative incentive package along with the MEDC, the City of Marysville and a local bank including the construction and at cost building lease through the Local Development Financing Authority, a Community Development Block Grant, EDJT grant, tax abatements and State Education Tax (SET) reduction.

A Community Development Block Grant (CDGB) was awarded for a $1,000,000 loan/grant to the company from the State of Michigan to the City of Marysville for use by the company toward direct costs associated with its expansion efforts. The loan becomes a grant upon verification that the company has created at least 50 new jobs and retained 750 existing employees as a result of the project.
