The Michigan Economic Growth Authority (MEGA), the state’s response to interstate competition for company expansions and relocations, may provide a refundable tax credit against the Michigan Business Tax (MBT) to companies expanding or relocating their operations in Michigan. Companies eligible for a MEGA tax credit against the MBT are those engaged in manufacturing, research and development, wholesale trade of office operations that are financially sound and have solid proposals.

Keihin Michigan Manufacturing
In 2007 Keihin Indiana Precision Technology, Inc. (KIPT) chose Capac, Michigan over competing locations as the site for their new Keihin Michigan Manufacturing (KMM) operations. KMM produces Intake Manifold Assemblies and HVAC systems for Honda with a flexible and consistent manufacturing line that is environmentally friendly and has the most updated layout design of the North American plants.
The EDA coordinated the creation of a package of incentives including local tax abatements, Community Development Block Grants, Mega tax credits, State Education Tax, State Sales Tax Exemption and Incumbent Workers Training grants along with the Village of Capac and the Macomb/St. Clair County Workforce Development Board.
MEGA Tax Credits were awarded to KMM and coordinated through the EDA, MEDC, and the Village of Capac and were instrumental in helping KIPT reach the decision to construct their new KMM facility in Capac over competing locations.
