Economic Development Job Training Program
The Economic Development Job Training (EDJT) Program seeks to ensure that Michigan has the training resources to retain and attract business and people into the 21st Century with a highly skilled workforce. EDJT grant awards are discretionary and require that businesses and training providers work closely with a Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) account manager and workforce development specialist to develop an effective training plan.
St. Clair County Project Utilizing EDJT Incentive:
ALD Thermal Treatment, Inc.
ALD Thermal Treatment is an advanced vacuum heat-treating service provider specializing in processes for precision automotive components such as transmission gears, shafts, fuel injector parts and precision bearing. This facility primarily provides vacuum carburizing and high-pressure gas quenching for gears found in General Motors new six speed front wheel drive transmissions.
The EDA coordinated the creation of a package of incentives along with the MEDC, Michigan Economic Growth Authority and the City of Port Huron helping ALD reach the decision to place their new facility in Port Huron over competing locations. The company was awarded a MEGA tax credit, local tax abatements and EDJT grants.
Economic Development Job Training grants were awarded to ALD for training the new employees on the company’s patented heat-treating processes.
