Macomb-St. Clair Meet the Buyer Program

Businesses are invited to meet with Buyers one-on-one and learn what it takes to do business with state, local, and federal governments. This is an excellent opportunity for participants to meet briefly with government agencies, educational institutions, and corporate purchasers, as well as network with each other. You are invited to register for this exciting event as either a Buyer or a Seller. Buyers are larger companies with supply chain needs who are looking to fill their procurement gaps. Companies also sign up as a Buyer to conduct price comparisons for their current procurement needs, or to identify local suppliers. Sellers are companies that provide goods and/or services. Sellers’ benefits include the opportunity to diversify sales, pitch your product and services to decision-makers, and help keep business local to the Michigan economy.

On October 1st, the state of Michigan will make available $29 million in workforce training grants. The Skilled Trades Training Fund (STTF) awards competitive grant funding each year to help Michigan employers have the talent they need to compete and grow, and individuals have the skills they need for in-demand jobs. These grants can be used for both new worker and incumbent worker training. In just one hour or less, this session will give you the tools and resources to take advantage of applying for the grant workforce training funds.

Michigan is home to approximately 1.3 million individuals with disabilities. Michigan Rehabilitation Services (MRS) provides specialized employment and education-related services and training to assist teens and adults with disabilities in becoming employed or retaining employment. Additionally, MRS provides a wide range of services just for the business community. This program will provide attendees with detailed information on MRS services, including:

  • Talent development and recruitment,
  • Connections to state and community partner assets and services
  • Reasonable accommodation services
  • Risk management/employee retention, and
  • American with Disability Act (ADA) consultation.

At our next EMMA meeting, we are excited to announce that Bernard Swiecki, Director of the Automotive Communities Partnership (ACP) at the Center for Automotive Research (CAR) as well as a Senior Automotive Analyst in CAR’s Industry, Labor, and Economics (ILE) group, will discuss the current status of the automotive industry and where the industry might be heading in the next few years. Bernard has written and managed research in a diverse array of automotive fields pertaining to automaker/supplier relationships, electric and alternative powertrain vehicles. He manages CAR’s analysis of vehicle sales, production, and segmentation data. He has also led trade missions to China, Italy, India, and Russia. Companies are welcomed to bring additional colleagues to this meeting to benefit from the auto industry insights presented.
